Hi. I've got a mid-2012 MB Pro. It currently has an older 128GB SSD drive in it. It was a definite improvement over the stock 5400 HDD. The machine still holds up amazingly well, and I"m wondering if one last HD upgrade would buy me some more time.

The processing power in them beat a 2015 macbook air even then! You are right that a SSD will speed it up even more and I would up the Ram to at least 8gb. I managed to get a 2009 macbook normal to run Mojave smoothly with a SSD, so no reason why a 2012 Pro shouldn't be able to run Catalina fine.
